"Fiddle for Symphonic Musicians"
August 22-26, 2010




This program is designed for professional classical violinists and teachers who might be interested in learning about different fiddle styles. It will take place the week of FiddleMania, in the mornings. The program will be less focused on performance, and more involved in pedagogy and knowledge about different fiddle styles. Students in this program will have access to FiddleMania’s full faculty.

With the knowledge acquired in this program, professional violinists should be able to develop an appreciation for the artistic practice of fiddle music, and they should be able to better discuss and teach these styles in their studios.

"Improvising on Fiddle: Theory and Practice"

This program is designed for advanced violinists or fiddlers who are interested in learning about improvisation. Many fiddle styles are highly decorated by improvisation, and it is difficult to attempt without a slight foundation in music theory. This weekend will focus on basic music theory needed to improvise, but also how to put this theory into practice. Ben Plotnick will be the instructor.

Students who attend this program should obtain a reasonable knowledge in the theory and practice of improvising, and they should acquire enough confidence to pursue improvising further in their lives.
